Valve, the gaming company, has issued a statement that starting from January 1, 2024, Steam will no longer be compatible with Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.
This decision implies that Steam will no longer run on any computer that has these operating systems installed, and the gamers who wish to continue using Steam will need to upgrade to either Windows 10 or 11.
In 2019, Valve had already discontinued support for Windows XP and Vista, and now they have taken another step forward to leave behind these older versions of Windows. Valve explained that the latest features of Steam require an embedded version of Google's Chrome browser, which is incompatible with the older Windows operating systems. Furthermore, future updates to Steam will depend on Windows feature and security patches that are exclusively available on Windows 10 or later.
