In related news to the previous one; no chips means no cards to finish. Tesla has to shut down the Model 3 production line at its Fremont factory in California. A stop is planned for two weeks. The tech industry worldwide suffers from a shortage of microchips, which is now also affecting the electric car manufacturer.

Tesla uses a self-developed Full Self Driving (FSD) processor, NVIDIA's one was replaced two years ago. This FSD chip is used in all current Model S, Model X, and Model 3 hardware ever since April 2019.

Much like NVIDIA, Tesla is fabbing their chips at Samsung. And while it is a 14nm processor, Samsung cannot produce fast enough to meet demand. As such production for the Model 3 is halted from February 22nd to March 7th, according to a report from Bloomberg. The tech industry is currently grappling with a global shortage of microchips. What did not help was that Samsung had to temporarily close its semiconductor plant in Austin due to the power outages.
