Synology DS218 comes with a new 64-bit quad-core processor, delivering excellent data transfer speed, large storage volume management, and 10-bit 4K H.265 video transcoding on the fly and offers over 112 MB/s and 112 MB/s sequential read and writes.
The DS218 has a 64-bit quad core arm bases SoC, Realtek RTD1296 actually, clocking clocked at 1.4 GHz. System memory was upgraded as well, 2 GB DDR4 is used. With these specifications, the unit should reach sequential read and write speeds of up to 112 MB/s. In addition, the device can now transcode 10-bit H.265 images with a resolution up to 4096 x 2160 pixels and 30 fps in real-time.
"4K video content is becoming more and more common. DS218 is also optimised for 10-bit 4K H.265 video transcoding. If your device is not capable of 4K video playback, DS218 provides online 4K video transcoding to 1080p and below for a smoother experience," said Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology Inc.
