SK hynix is preparing to launch the SK hynix Beetle X31, a portable solid-state drive (SSD) targeting global markets, beginning with the United States in late June.
Serving as the company's inaugural portable SSD, the X31 has garnered acclaim for its impressive performance, convenient portability, and sleek design since its introduction in South Korea in May 2023. Notably, this SSD boasts a maximum operating speed of 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) and excels in heat management capabilities. Released amidst the growing demand for portable SSDs, the X31 satisfies the need for storage devices that offer swift data read and write operations while ensuring secure data storage while on the move.
The X31 integrates SK hynix's cutting-edge technologies, which previously enabled optimal power consumption in the Gold P31 and established industry-leading specifications for consumer SSDs in the Platinum P41. In contrast to the prevalent use of DRAM-less SSDs as a cost-saving measure, SK hynix has opted to maximize the performance of the X31 by incorporating DRAM as a buffer within the SSD. Consequently, the X31 achieves a maximum sequential read speed of 1,050 megabytes per second (MB/s) and a maximum sequential write speed of 1,000 MB/s. These speeds facilitate the transfer of a 1 GB file in a mere one second. Specifically, the X31 can transfer 500 GB of data while maintaining an optimal speed of over 900 MB/s. This is attributed to the X31's ability to strike a balance between effectively managing heat generated from rapid data movement and maximizing write speeds.
The X31 is a highly portable storage device, designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and shaped like a beetle. Its compact dimensions of 74 x 46 x 14.8 mm and lightweight of only 53 grams make it optimized for portability. The ergonomically designed aluminium body and smooth, round edges provide an extra grip for ease of use. The X31 offers wide compatibility, supporting various devices such as IBM PCs, Macs, tablet PCs, Android smartphones, and gaming consoles. It is available in two storage options: 512 GB or 1 TB. Additionally, the X31 comes with two USB cables (C-to-C and C-to-A) and a bumper case as standard accessories.
