Samsung shared that up-to 4 TB 850 series SSDs will be released in 2016, Samsung will use its recently announced nand-chips to increase that massive capacity.

In August during the flash memory summit Samsung announced their 3rd gen V-nand technology, the new revision bumps the current 32-layers towards 48 layered stacks of NAND flash memory. Early 2016 will be the time frame where Samsung will utilize its new 3rd gen 3d V-nand. The SATA III based 2.5"850 pro and 850 EVO will be the first SSDs in line to receive the NAND upgrade and thus larger capacities. Currently the maximum size is 2TB (read our 850 EVO 2TB review here). 

With the 3rd gen nand the M.2. form factor storage capacity will be increased as well, you will see smaller M.2. versions and capacity increases from 512GB towards 1TB. Drives like the PM863 and SM863 also get this new NAND. 

Samsung will also change the naming of its nand chips from 3d V-nand towards simply V-nand.
