Samsung introduces the Galaxy S8 and S8+ to the world. Available in 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+. They feature a new design in which the "infinity display" wraps around the device, meaning that the large screen takes up almost all the front of the phone.
The phones were unveiled at packed events in New York and London, at which Samsung also unveiled a new version of its virtual reality headset, the Gear VR, and DeX, a dock that allows the S8 to turn into a desktop computer. The S8 and S8+ are due to go on sale on April 28 and will cost 799 and 899 euro / £689 and £779 respectively. Two colours will hit first, “Midnight Black” and “Orchid Grey”, and Samsung is still decided whether to launch a third colour, “Arctic Silver”.
The S8 has a 5,8"-scherm with 18,5:9-ratio, The S8+ has the 6,2"-screen both have a 2960x1440 pixels reolution. The devices are IP68: This standard protects the S8 from splashes, water, and dust and is surprisingly not available on most Android smartphones. The screen, with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels on both models, is also the first on a mobile phone to be rated as Mobile HDR Premium, certifying it as meeting a certain standard for high dynamic range content – showing blacker blacks, brighter whites and a generally larger range of brightness than most phones. Although largely similar apart from their screens, the two sizes do have one other difference: a larger battery in the larger model, rated at 3,500mAh, while the smaller phone has storage of 3,000mAh.

In addition, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will offer a wide selection of biometric technologies including a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner and facial recognition so users can select a secure biometric authentication method that works best for them.

The Galaxy S8 will ship with Android 7, Nougat, which is currently the most recent version of Android. It is due to be superseded in the third quarter of 2017 by Android O. Both phones run on the Exynos 8895-soc, at least the EU models. These use 4 fast and four slower Cortex A53 cores. The GPU is Mali based with 20 cores, the lpddr4 memory is 4GB. Storage capacity will be up-to 64GB. The fingerprint scanner is removed from the home button and has been placed at the frontside camera (what a lousy location). The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with an advanced 8MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera and 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera for the best low-light, zoom and anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing.
