The next Intel HEDT and desktop processors, Sapphire Rapids and Raptor Lake, would be introduced in October, a year after Alder Lake, according to the well-known leaker Enthusiastic Citizen.
In addition, Intel's HEDT platform has not been updated in a long time and based on this report and what we've observed, it will take a different route than prior generations.
To begin with, they won't be marketed as the Core-X series, but rather as the Xeon W3400/2400, thus they're likely aiming for the same consumer market as Threadripper PRO. As desktop CPUs get more cores and more advanced motherboards, the market for high-core-count CPUs with enhanced power and connectivity choices is gradually dwindling.
The thirteenth generation Raptor Lake would debut in October with compatibility for both existing motherboards and the new high-end Z790 platform. According to the report, a new series of 700 motherboards, including the H770 and B760, will be produced the following year. Intel has a very similar release timetable for its 12th Generation series, therefore it is reasonable to expect that the K series processors will be among the first to be launched.
