Developer CD Projekt Red has released a gameplay trailer for Cyberpunk 2077, providing gamers with a brief tour of Night City, as well a glimpse of the combat and narrative they can expect to see.
The clip is filled with fast-paced and explosive action scenes, interspersed with shots of the megalopolis and its criminal underworld. The narrator teases a "merciless struggle for power" that plagues the streets, and a city that is "consumed by never-ending conflict."
Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in 2012 but began development in 2016, shortly after work had completed on DLC for CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The upcoming game takes place in the futuristic Night City, controlled by a mix of powerful corporations and violent gangs, all untouched by the country's laws. Cybernetic modifications are commonplace among people and society has become entirely dependent on technology.
Players will play as V, a fully customizeable mercenary whose voice, appearance and modifications can be altered. CD Projekt Red has stated that it will be possible to complete Cyberpunk 2077 without killing anyone and that the game will possess multiple endings.
The game was originally scheduled for release on Nov. 19, but has been delayed until Dec. 10. CD Projekt Red attributed the delay to the need for further testing to ensure the game functioned properly on next-gen consoles-- the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Developed by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia and PC Dec. 10.
