Dmitry Glukhovsky, the esteemed author of "Metro 2033" and its subsequent novels, which inspired the acclaimed game series, has come under scrutiny from Russian authorities. Due to his critical remarks regarding the invasion of Ukraine, Glukhovsky was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment.

Russian officials have charged him with disseminating "disinformation" about their military actions. Although Glukhovsky currently lives overseas, the trial and sentencing occurred in his absence, prompting discussions about the integrity of the legal proceedings.

In 2022, Glukhovsky labeled the conflict as inhumane and challenged Putin's rationale for the Ukraine invasion, alleging the Russian President was leveraging the situation to consolidate his authority. This judgement is a consequence of recent Russian legislation that criminalizes the distribution of "misleading information" pertinent to the Ukraine conflict, a law instituted after the onset of military hostilities in the country. As of now, Glukhovsky hasn't been witnessed re-entering Russia.

Separately, Glukhovsky announced a forthcoming novel within the Metro universe in 2019. Additionally, game development news is anticipated: Studio 4A confirmed a successor to Metro: Exodus in 2020. Although the next installment is believed to be in an advanced phase of development, with playable content from beginning to end, specific details remain undisclosed. Despite speculations about a potential 2024 launch, the studio has opted to retain critical information regarding this project confidential.
