Asus has been the exclusive distributor of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS and Ryzen 7 5800HS processors till now. There are now indications of two significant changes with regard to these CPUs: first, it appears that Asus exclusivity is no longer in effect; and second, it appears that 'Creators Editions' versions of these processors with faster base clocks are on the way.
In a tweet on Sunday, tech Twitter heavyweights Komachi and Momomo us (via VideoCardz) discovered listings for Lenovo laptops equipped with the Ryzen 9 5900HS Creator Edition and the Ryzen 7 5800HS Creator Edition processors. The Lenovo listings referenced by the Twitterers do not provide us with the complete specifications of these new CPUs, but the most significant modifications are indicated - increased base clocks, as follows.
- Ryzen 9 5900HS Creator Edition 3.3GHz/4.6GHz – with a 300MHz faster base clock than the standard Ryzen 9 5900HS
- Ryzen 7 5800HS Creator Edition 3.2GHz/4.4GHz – with a 400MHz faster base clock than the standard Ryzen 7 5800HS
H suffix CPUs typically use 35W and have slower base clock speeds than their H suffix counterparts. This new 'Creator Edition' appears to remedy the situation — presumably through the use of hand-selected silicon. Unfortunately, the TDPs of Lenovo's new Creator Edition CPUs are not specified on the company's product pages.
A new SKUs of AMD CPUs, the AMD Creator Edition, is available in the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro and Yoga 14S. In addition, these portables have 14-inch panels with resolutions up to 1800p, 16GB of soldered RAM, Nvidia GeForce MX 450 2GB GDDR6 graphics, and PCIe 3.0 SSD storage options with capacities up to 1 terabytes.
