The introduction of the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards carried some surprises, such as the cancellation of an already-announced GPU RTX 4080 12GB ). Now, photos on the Chinese Chipell forum show a massive cooling system from a 900W-consuming GeForce RTX 40 that was never published.
According to rumours, installing this cooling system was explored, but the project was shelved. @9550pro published the photograph on Twitter which had been posted on chiphell (asia), and the post seemed genuine, or at least credible enough to trust the entire narrative. Although I do not specify it, the 900W TDP would indicate the maximum usage with a lower base TDP.
Following the announcement of the RTX 40 range with Ada Lovelace architecture, other manufacturers are producing their own bespoke GPUs. Imagine what would happen if this cooling system for a GeForce RTX 40 were available on the market. The RTX 4090 is already massive; this would be monstrous in scale. The image shows that the cooling system heat sink would have straight and parallel fins to the PCB (printed circuit board). The cooling system looks to be placed vertically above the PCB and GPU rather than horizontally. There is no way to tell what the cooling system configuration is based on these leaked photographs, but even with a FULL TOWER case, installing this card would need some effort.
