ASUS has unveiled the latest external GPU, the XG Mobile RTX 4090 GPU, designed specifically for ROG Flow systems. The XG Mobile interface utilizes PCIE Gen3 x8 connection and has a 63 GB/s dedicated bandwidth exclusively for the GPU.
This makes it faster than Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gb/s) by 57%, providing enhanced performance for graphics-intensive tasks such as gaming, multimedia editing, and rendering. It features a proprietary connector that cannot be used by any other product, making it exclusive to ROG Flow systems. The latest model, released in 2023, is equipped with the RTX 4090 GPU (AD103), 16GB of VRAM, and a TGP of 150W. It also features a 330W power supply and supports hot-swapping while being able to charge laptops. The cooling module has a turbo fan that pushes air out of the chassis through the exhaust vents. In addition, the new XG Mobile graphics dock supports HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4, USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-A + Type-C), SD card reader and 2.5G Ethernet LAN port, allowing users to realize multi-screen expansion of four 4K screens.
The XG Mobile graphics dock's overall size is 21.7cm x 16.5cm x 3.26cm, which is only 7% of a typical graphics dock and weighs about 1.3kg. It has two built-in modules, one is a built-in 330W power supply, and the other is a GPU and I/O interface. Its built-in bracket is designed to adapt to multiple scenarios and equipped with cool lighting effects.
ASUS designed the XG Mobile RTX 4090 GPU to allow ROG Flow owners to upgrade or replace their external GPU to RTX 40 series. The modularity gives ROG Flow owners a choice between a lightweight and easy to carry laptop/tablet or a proper gaming platform. The XG GPU is compatible with ROG Flow X13, X16 and Z13 systems.
The XG Mobile RTX 4090 GPU is currently priced at $2,600, making it 87% pricier than the last year's model. Despite its steep price, it offers unmatched performance, and its modular design makes it a versatile option for ROG Flow owners.
