ASUS has released AGESA 1202 Beta BIOS updates for its AMD X670E motherboard lineup. This firmware introduces the 105W TDP mode, aiming to enhance system performance for select Ryzen processors. AMD's new AGESA microcode was anticipated, and ASUS appears to be the first manufacturer to integrate it into BIOS updates for its flagship X670E motherboards. The update is expected to improve system stability and performance, although detailed information from ASUS remains limited.

One of the significant features of the AGESA 1202 update is the official inclusion of the 105W TDP mode. This mode is designed for the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X processors, optimizing thermal design power settings to potentially boost performance. Previous BIOS versions, such as AGESA 1201, had this feature enabled prematurely. The 105W TDP mode will also be available by default in upcoming AMD 800-series motherboards.

Supported Motherboard Models

The AGESA 1202 Beta BIOS is now available for several ASUS motherboard series, including ROG Crosshair, ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, and ProArt. The specific models and their corresponding Beta BIOS versions are as follows:

  • ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO - Beta BIOS 2401
  • ROG CROSSHAIR X670E GENE - Beta BIOS 2401
  • ROG CROSSHAIR X670E EXTREME - Beta BIOS 2401
  • ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI - Beta BIOS 2401
  • ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI - Beta BIOS 2401
  • ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI - Beta BIOS 2401
  • ROG STRIX X670E-I GAMING WIFI - Beta BIOS 2401
  • TUF GAMING X670E PLUS - Beta BIOS 3040
  • TUF GAMING X670E PLUS WIFI - Beta BIOS 3040
  • PROART X670E CREATOR WIFI - Beta BIOS 2401

Currently, there are no updates listed for the X670 non-Extreme motherboards.

Considerations Before Updating

While the new BIOS update promises performance enhancements, it is still in Beta. You should exercise caution and consider installing it only if necessary. Beta versions may contain unresolved issues that could affect system stability. For users of the Ryzen 7000 series, this update may not provide significant benefits, and it might be prudent to wait for the official non-Beta release.
