In a live conference AMD officially announced the 249 USD Radeon R9 285 and new FX-processors. The Radeon R9 285 as expected will be based on the new Tonga GPU, a GPU with 1792 streamprocessors. The memory bus has been cut down towards 256-bit and the clock frequency is 918 MHz. 

The GDDR5 memory is clocked a hint faster though at 5,5GHz. Very nice will be the low 190 Watt TDP. So the first consumer graphics card based on Tonga will be the Radeon R9 285 and has 1792 activated stream processors making it perform at GeForce GTX 760  and Radeon HD 7950 level performance but with  better thermals and lower power consumption.

The R9 285 is designed to offer performance roughly of the Radeon R9 280 but is more energy-efficiency. AMD also shows a 3DMark FireStrike performance number for the Radeon R9 285 performance-segment graphics card. Based on a Core i7-4960X six-core processor and 16 GB of DDR3-1866 memory, the R9 285 scored P7066 (performance) and X3513 (extreme).

AMD also introduces the (Vishera)  FX-8370, FX-8370E en FX 8320E processors. The E denominator indicates energy friendly products with a 95 Watt TDP. Prices of the older FX model will drop a bit.

The new FX-series microprocessors from AMD, which are due to be formally introduced on September 1, 2014, are the FX-8370 and the FX-8370E. Both chips feature eight cores, 4.10GHz/4.30GHz clock-rates, 8MB L2 cache, 8MB L3 cache and dual-channel DDR3 memory controllers. The FX-8370 will have thermal design power of 125W, whereas the FX-8370E will feature TDP of 95W. Both microprocessors will be priced at $189 in mass quantities.

In addition, AMD will also slash prices on existing FX-8300-series chips and introduce the model FX-8320E with 95W TDP.
