At least that is what industry sources claim, AMD will launch Godavari series APUs at the end of May to compete with Intel's Broadwell and Skylake platforms. This info was shared by Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The end of May would mean an introduction just prior to the Computext exhibition in Taiwan. Digitimes is the media that spotted this;

AMD will launch Godavari series APUs at the end of May to compete with Intel's Broadwell and Skylake platforms, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers. AMD said it does not comment on unannounced product or speculation. AMD will launch 14nm Summit Ridge APUs to be produced by Samsung Electronics and Globalfoundries in 2016, including Bristol Ridge mainstream models, and the Raven Ridge-series in 2017, the sources said. AMD has placed orders with Taiwan-based ASMedia Technology for USB 3.1 controller ICs to match its chipsets to be launched in September 2015, the sources indicated.

If we may go a little deeper, Godvari architecture is in fact an update to what you guys have known and learned as Excavator architecture CPU cores combined with Graphics CoreNext 1.2 based stream processors seated into the integrated GPU inside the APU. The APU will make a bump upwards from PCI-Express 2.0 towards 3.0 and supports higher speed DDR3 controllers allowing 2133 MHz as default (but that one is speculative). There will be up to four x86 cores to be more specific, along with up to 512 stream processors per integrated graphics processing unit.

The previous Kaveri APU architecture was to be seated onto existing FM2+ platform socket for motherboards, we expect the same for this APU series.  The following models are to be expected though we are not sure they will be released all at once. Here are the primary models:

  • AMD Athlon X4 870K: This chip will feature 4 cores (3.5 GHz base, 3.7 GHz boost clock), 4 MB L2 cache, 95W TDP and a price of $80 It will have an unlocked multiplier, enabling overclocking despite the price.
  • AMD A6-8550K: A single-threaded dual-core APU at 3.1 GHz / 3.5 GHz, with Radeon R5 graphics (256 cores), 2 MB L2 cache, and 45/65W Configurable TDP.
  • AMD A8-8650 APU: A quad-core, single-threaded APU at 3.2 GHz / 3.8 GHz on a configurable TDP. It gets 4 MB L2 cache and 760 MHz Radeon R7 GPU with 384 Sea Islands GCN cores.
  • AMD A10-8850K APU: This flagship part uses 4 cores, 4 threads, 3.7 GHz / 4.1 GHz clocks, Radeon R7 Sea Islands graphics (512 streaming cores, 856 MHz), 4 MB L2 cache and 95W TDP. It should get a price of $149.
