In a recent interview, Apacer general manager CK Chang mentions that that pricing of 256GB solid state disks are expected to fall under $70 in the second half of this year. Though 128GB models are slowly getting too small imho, these will hit $40.

Prices for 256GB SSDs will likely fall below US$70 in the second half of 2015, while prices for 128GB drives will reach a sweet spot of US$40, according to Apacer Technology general manager CK Chang. With SSDs becoming more affordable, a wave of demand could be stimulated, said Chang.

Upstream chip vendors have migrated their process technologies to 14nm, 15nm or 16nm, dragging production costs down substantially. As a result, prices for NAND flash memory will fall resulting in more friendly prices for SSDs, Chang indicated.

Apacer saw its 2014 revenues exceed the NT$10 billion (US$318 million) mark, a milestone for the company, Chang noted. The company shipped around four million SSDs in 2014 accounting for about 30% of its total revenues for the year, Chang said.

For 2015, Apacer will focus on products for the industrial, cloud, mobile and gaming fields, according to Chang. The company will also strengthen its ties with strategic partners.

Apacer recently announced Phison Electronics has participated in its private placement. The pair will expand their partnership in the industrial memory sector, Chang said.
