So at the front side is a door, behind it four mounting trays for either your HDDs or SSDs, both 3.5" and 2.5" storage units can be mounted as long as they are SATA based.
 

Here we have the drive tray, you can insert two HDDs. The hard drives can be configured in a pool if that has your preference. Basically you insert the HDD and secure it with 4 screws.
 

If you want something faster, you could mount an SSD in there as well. Just use the four screws at the bottom and slide it in. We'll be testing this unit with an SSD, so that HDD performance can never be an issue. Obviously the Gigabit network is the bottleneck in terms of latency and performance. After error-correction and stuff like QOS, 1 Gbps equals out to roughly 100 to 125MB/s maximum. Yeah it's time for 10 Gbit Ethernet you guys :)

Inserting and removing the HDD/SSD is a very simple and smooth process, this unit is hot swappable meaning you can change/remove/insert storage units even when the unit is powered on. If you opt a big HDD, everything we know is supported including HDDs from WD Red like in the 6 TB and even HGST / Hitachi 10TB flavors.

Once we open the unit up, we see it's really a small form factor PC, smaller then Mini ITX. The unit is basically based on several components, a motherboard, the SATA bridge with connectors and a front panel. Next to that SODIMM memory is tied to it and also an embedded SSD for the operating system.

When we flip the unit around you can see that a little better. The innards are extremely sturdy, you can't really bend a thing, which is good as any NAS should last you a long time.
