Final Words & Conclusion
Final Words & Conclusion
The MP33 looks a bit plain (and the PCB is blue), and it’s a run-of-the-mill NVMe drive (if you can call it like that) in the year 2019. This is a TLC NAND storage based product, and that does show in some areas (long sustained writes). The MP33 uses a new generation of Toshiba 3D flash memory (TA7AG55AWV). In a single-sided configuration (512 GB), you can see a total of 4 TLC NAND, 128 GB per each one. Teamgroup's MP33 currently launched a total of 5 capacity versions: 128GB / 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB. It should be a good choice for regular office users or gamers.
Performance
Bandwidth and IOPs are as rated by Team Group, with no real complaints in this department. You get what you pay for. It was good in real-life tests. The temperatures were well under control, and a result of around 60 degrees is acceptable, with no unfavorable impact on the drive’s performance.
Conclusion
Yeah, it is a very decent product, so we’ve decided to give it the “Approved” award. You can buy this 512 GB version for around 79 USD, and albeit 15 cents per GB is on the high side, we would say it’s worth it. The Phison PS5013-E13-31 controller officially can provide the maximum 2,500/2,100 MB/s read and write speed. This 512GB version has a reading and writing performance of up to 1,700 / 1,400 MB/s and a maximum of 220K / 200K IOPS performance. The total number of data written is greater than 400TB (TBW endurance), with SLC Caching that usually helps the performance. It is looking good, the thermals are ok as well. Regular gamers/users should be perfectly satisfied with the MP33. Team Group provides five years of warranty for the MP33 SSD, which is above the market standard (although on the box and the SSD provided for the review you can see three years).
Update: we spotted this 512GB version for 69 USD/EUR, that's ~13 cents per GB, that's pretty okay value really.
