Verdict

Right then, the verdict. I just did a little soul searching and availability in Europe is a bit of an issue. I actually couldn't find it available at known e-tailers. Luckily for the Northern America consumers, there's very good availability. And get this, I spotted it for only roughly 80 USD that's just dirt cheap. Now granted yes, this is not an Enermax Galaxy 1000 WATT flagship product. But considering what kind of a high-end system we fired off at it, that's a dirt cheap PSU. We stress tested it for hours and hours, at all times that uberly expensive gaming-rig was running X3 loops and it remained absolutely stable.

And again .. surely this PSU is not at all a 350 USD Galaxy 1KW DXX power supply. But not everyone can afford such a PSU, that's the reality for sure.

The one thing I disliked is the lack of two additional (four) PCI-Express graphics card connectors. If you plan to build a system with two GeForce 8800 GTX cards in SLI that's an aesthetic issue. As you'll only have two 6-pin connectors. You then have to use 6-pin to Molex converter cable (delivered for free with these graphics cards) to connect the 3rd and 4th power connector on the graphics adapters. And while the PSU can handle it, it just a little ...  silly.

Now since we are on the topic of 8800 GTX in SLI, we pushed the system close towards 571 Watts energy consumption while remaining stable with an overclocked quad-core CPU. With that in mind I tend to say; that's pushing it a little too close to the maximum (despite the fact we didn't have any issues). I really would recommend to opt for a slightly higher rated PSU. But two 8800 GTS cards for example, well that'd be just fine and dandy as far as Guru3D is concerned.

So again, we are looking at a notable, stable as a brick house PSU. It's in-audible, delivers okay energy efficiency (I'd really like to know what the efficiency is at 50% power consumption) and has a bucket-load of features that are just notable. These PSU's seem to have great build quality.

guru3d-recommended_150px.jpgThe SolyTech 600 Watt really did an excellent job throughout all our tests. Again in most scenarios this is a really good PSU. The PSU is glorious and more than capable enough in many ways. I just love the modability of the cables as it cleans up the interior mess of your PC and will make it really nice and tidy. If you are in the high-end segment looking for a cheap PSU, then SolyTech SL-8600EPS can be a very good choice for you as it brings excellent value for your money. Definitely recommended.
