Last but not least, all the way below in the control panel we have some quick links to see which users are connected to the device, what they are doing, which files they have open on the server, and a serverlog that displays all important changes for the server and snapextensions ... which allows specific Java applications to be run on the SnapServer.

Can you back that up Sir ?
When we drop the configuration for a while we need to realize what this device can mean to us. So next to all the file-sharing functions described this of course can also be one hefty piece of backup drive. It's connects towards your LAN, can be access in a variety of ways but how are we going to accomplish that. Luckily SnapServer 1100 comes with probably one of the best backup software titles available, PowerQuest Dataminer.

It is a 50 USD program that will allow you to handle automated backups of all your important data to a network drive like the SnapServer. The software is extremely easy to use and very smart. It does not make complete backup all the time, no you select what you want back-upped and once the first backup has been made DataKeeper will check the files on whatever rotation you want it. If a file has changed it'll backup it. Password protected and compressed if you want it to.

You can use DataKeeper to:

  • Back up combinations of files and folders on your computer with options such as password protection and file compression.
  • Enable remote access to files from anywhere on the network.
  • Restore a single file (even from a compressed backup), a most recent version of a file, or an older version of a file from up to a year earlier.

Here in the office we need to do regular backups and I'm telling you the ease of use and efficiency of this combo is not something that I'm willing to miss. It's the most secure backup solution that I've ever wished for. This software with a SnapServer 1100 is a fantastic combo.

The backup causes very little HD and System utilization.
