The Asus Zenbook S16 integrates a large battery into its slim 0.47-inch chassis, maintaining a lightweight design at 3.31 pounds. Larger laptops are typically cumbersome, often due to battery size, but the Zenbook S16 feels more like a compact 13- or 14-inch device, making its larger footprint easy to overlook. The standout feature is the OLED display, which boasts a 400-nit brightness for SDR and 500 nits for HDR. An OLED screen ensures infinite contrast, with high colour accuracy. And yeah, the display does kick ass. Probably the best I've ever seen on a laptop.

The keyboard layout enhances the compact feel of the laptop, with Asus positioning it closer to the front by minimizing the trackpad size and placing the speaker grille at the back. This design allows for more comfortable typing without lifting palms from the rests, a rare benefit for 16-inch laptops. The laptop's chassis undergoes a specialized process to create a durable ceramic oxide layer on the aluminum body, giving it a distinct texture that feels both rough and smooth. The design retains the elegant geometric lines typical of previous Zenbook models. The keys are large, flat-topped chiclets with a short 1.1mm travel, providing a crisp typing experience. It has big letters that are easy and comfortable on the eyes.

While some compromises, such as small Shift and Ctrl keys and a single-height Enter key, may bother some users, overall usability remains strong, including the Copilot AI key for enhanced productivity. Half-height cursor keys could be a minor inconvenience, but they are separated from the rest of the layout, making navigation easy.

The big touchpad offers great usability, with ample space as you can see, and high sensitivity, allowing for precise control across applications, websites, and the Windows desktop. Left and right clicks perform reliably, and gesture controls, including single and double-finger taps, are effective, ensuring a smooth user experience. Connectivity options on the Zenbook S16 meet modern standards, with two USB 4 Type-C ports supporting DisplayPort and USB-PD, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A port. While one USB-C port will be used for charging, additional docks are largely unnecessary unless you need Ethernet. Wi-Fi 7 is built-in, reducing the need for wired connections, and Bluetooth 5.4 is available for wireless peripherals like mice or headsets. The laptop’s audio system delivers a balanced, dynamic sound, suitable for both entertainment and voice communication. The 1080p webcam provides clear, well-exposed images in various lighting conditions.
