Last week we took an in-depth peek at Gigabyte's 3D1, two graphics core's on one graphics card in SLI mode. While being a fantastic idea, it lacks scalability a little as you cannot seat another SLI compatible card in that PC of yours while being at the performance level of a GeForce 6600 GT.
Today's test is in many ways similar, but in many ways isn't also. Yes, i love to talk in riddles. Today we are prioviding you with a full SLI review. Two graphics cards connected together in a PC, arming you with some more rendering power. The advantage is quite simple based on two factors.
At some point in time you need to replace your mainboard, so buy a SLI capable mainboard (just to be sure). Secondly, if you are budget minded or simply are dealing with PC versus performance in an economic way then you buy 1 graphics card and in a later stage when you need that extra performance and/or have the extra cash you can scale up your PC with that upgrade. To be honest there is a 3rd factor, enthusiast people, the really sensible ones and they are called Guru's ;) They want the latest and the very best in their PC, they need to be up-to date, these are the people that repair family and friends PC's based upon good knowledge of PC's versus hardware and advise your relatives on what to buy in a PC. Our kind of people!
Face it, if you're reading this you're probably looking and thinking about SLI based on the cool factor. Today's products are GeForce 6600 GT, two of them in SLI mode. Combined they perform roughly the same as a GeForce 6800 GT and that's just tricky and not at all sensible. But that X-factor... I'll explain all this later on in this article.
Two 128MB GeForce 6600 GT's in one PC, bridged together in SLI mode. That's what we'll be reviewing today. The cards are being made by that lovely company called Prolink and the product series is of course PixelView.
Let me show you the same table as last weeks review did, Prolink offers a lot of GeForce 6600 models, a whole lot.

When we look at Prolink's website the SLI package is not mentioned yet. The products are however 98% similar to the PV-N43E(128LD). There was one distinct difference though. When we verified the memory frequency we noticed that is is clocked higher then previously named model. It is running at default at 1120 MHz. Hey the more memory bandwidth the better!
Anyway let's have a quick overview of the Series 6 products from NVIDIA and then talk a little about features and technology. Next we'll show you a photo shoot, followed by overclocking, benchmarks/tests and of course we'll be concluding with "the verdict" on this Prolink SLI package. To make a nice assessment on this lovely SLI madness we equipped ourselves with a Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI mainboard and an Athlon 64 4000+ processor.
