Introduction
The tablet market is becoming a diverse and complex one. From top to bottom you will find many brands and many more products to choose from. The really sexy tablets are expensive though, expect starting prices of 350 EUR for a decent model, even running up-to 500 EUR easily for the more high-end gear. Fortunately there is much activity in the tablet arena, features are constantly being renewed and updated with each model that comes along, unfortunately that also means that a tablet (much like a smartphone) anno 2012 is outdated within a year in terms of OS development cycle and hardware.
Today a review in the absolute lowest segment of the tablet market. Last year Point of View introduced their first affordable Tablet in the Mobi range. Though cheap the tablet was received with mixed feelings. Low resolution and a poor screen where the biggest objections.
It's time for Point of View to release their latest Android tablet , the 10 ProTab2XXL. A product for which the pricing again is quite aggressive, roughly 170 EUR. For that money you certainly will not get a product with the latest revision of Android and the most high-end features, still it does come with a multitouch 10" Screen (Capacitive by the way) and a good plethora of other features that ooze value for money.
The ProTab2XXL is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 processor that clocks in at a good 1 GHz.
Interesting enough for graphics, the ProTab2XXL also comes with an additional MALI-400 3D graphics chip. Now we never heard of it before tbh, but it seems to be the same GPU / co-processor the Galaxy S2 uses. Hey, we can certainly measure it's performance and it does allow for FullHD playback. The Mali graphics chip even allows to drive a mini HDMI v1.4 port.
For your convenient browsing and net activity the tablet uses an 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connection and also has a webcam on the front for pictures or video chats, quality is a iffy alright but it works decent enough for a tablet in this price bracket.
The tablet itself has 512 MB DDR3 memory for storage you'll see 4 GB NAND embedded, of course you can increase storage capacity yourself. So with a price of 169,- EUR the specs are decent enough alright. Let's dive into the the product showcase and head onwards next page please.
