Specifications and Features
So the sample that has arrived in our test lab is the 256 GB version of the drive. The M6S series will come with MLC writable NAND flash memory, Toshiba's NAND flash is used. The SSD leverages a SATA 6 Gb/s interface to deliver read speeds up to 520MB/s and writes up to 420MB/s depending your choice in volume size of the SSD. The SSD includes an multi-channel Marvell 88SS9187 controller, 20 nm NAND FLASH memory and a 512MB DDR3 cache (for the 256 GB model). Good to see is a very lower power consumption footprint on the Plextor M6S generation SSDs, making these puppies very interesting for mobile platform as as well. Have a look at the product overview.

Initial tests straight away show us that the product is plenty fast alright, this product stays among the latest LSI, Indilinx and Intel products really well. All models perform with sequential read performance advertised as 520 MB/s. Write performance is roughly 420 MB/sec, but for the smaller 128GB model that number is roughly 300 MB/sec as the controller has less NAND channels to fool around with.
