Introduction

Patriot Torqx SSD

There's no technology developing faster than Solid State Disk. We've mentioned it many times again, and as soon as we finished up a review, there's already a new request for the next product review. And here's why. It's stunning, absolutely fantastic technology, and as such we'll keep reviewing these nice devices as much as we can.

So after all the SSD reviews we've presented to you guys, we did learn over the past year or so is that Solid State Disks also have deficits. The biggest one it it's bottleneck for writing a lot of really small files simultaneous. This is very important if you plan to run an operating system on the SSD as the constant writes, MSN, email all stuff together would make the first generation SSDs fast ... but sometimes they choked up a little.

The biggest development to counteract that behavior over the past few months was to launch SSD storage units with cache. A nice large write cache prevents the SSD from clogging up and this solves pretty much the entire problem. Once the first SSD drives with proper cache came on the market, a second revolution started. All manufacturers are now jumping on the SSD drives with nice large caches. As such, you as an end-user will reap the benefits from that incredibly fast performance.

Today, we see another example of such a drive. You guys know that when we reviewed the OCZ Vertex, we were flabbergasted. When we tested the G.Skill Falcon SSD, we where absolutely amazed. And today's product from Patriot memory is not at all different. Armed with a very sexy multi-channel Indilinx SSD controller and a nice fat 64MB cache we'll be looking at the Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD. A drive that has the latest revision firmware installed and when we bring it onto automotive terms .. an SSD with a lot of torque !

Have a peek at this product, and then head on over to the next page please, to see in-depth what patriot has to offer with the 2.5" Torqx 128GB SSD drive.
