So then, after my somewhat weird introduction (fit's my style so nicely) let's have a peek at what we are reviewing today. NZXT games the product a gaming mouse, obviously a good match to the Guru3D audience, of which the majority are gamers.

Without further ado ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce the Avatar. NZXT, the folks that market and produce hardcore gaming chassis for you guys, are expanding their market. It's one of very few companies solely focusing on gaming products and they have been doing that with success.

Features (courtesy NZXT)

  • Optimal performance -- 2600 DPI Optical Sensor provides maximum sensitivity and responsiveness which yields unparalleled gaming accuracy. LED DPI indicator gives the user improved usage and feedback. 5.8 Mega Pixels/second with a max frame rate of 6469 ensures smooth fragging and accurate sniping. 4 Speed DPI switch enables you to go from slow sniper movement to quick attack movement in a matter of seconds
  • Maximum Customization -- 7 programmable keys allows gamers to customize their configuration specifically for First-Person Shooters, Real-Time Strategy, or Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games all within the macro and profile settings
  • Ergonomic Design -- Ambidextrous design gives full use to both right and left handed gamers. Rubber grip helps avoid slipping during intense gameplay and the small, light form factor allows for faster and quicker movements, perfect for any gamer on the go or playing on a laptop or notebook. A slim form factor makes it the perfect choice for finger tip gamers.
  • Simple Installation -- Avatar plugs into any available USB port
  • Slim and small dimensions -- Measuring at 36.8mm x 69.1mm x 128mm ( H x W x D ), the Avatar's smaller form factor is the best choice for finger tip gamers and people who game on the go.

The button on top of the mouse you can find the most important feature as it allows you to switch from 650 dpi mode to no less than 2600 which in-game is a more reactive mode for FPS firefights while a lower DPI value gives you more precise control, for those sniper situations I so much like to play in. Should you forget which DPI mode you're in, the mouse's scroll wheel LED lights will shine and allow you to recognize your DPI setting.

The mouse has a 2600 DPI Optical Sensor, LED DPI indicator and a whopping 5.8 Mega Pixels/second with a maximum (and forgive me to always fall back in graphics card lingo) frame rate of 6469 frames per second. Hah ! you wish Crysis could be rendered with this mouse eh ?

According to the spec sheet the response time should be less than 1ms. This, along with the a 16-bit wide data path, means the Stinger can track up to 43 inches per second. Ehm hum yeah .. we'll just take that for granted if you don't mind.

High-end gear comes at a price though, prepare to cough up  44.95 / 59 USD for it. But is it worth that money then ? Let's have a look.
