Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an action role-playing video game set in The Lord of the Rings universe, developed by Monolith Productions and released by Warner Bros. The game takes place during the gap between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings saga. We set image quality to in-game "Very High". Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor has a built in benchmark. It is not exactly the most precise tool in the shed, therefore you should always keep a variance of roughly 5% in mind. You can run this benchmark 3 times and all times the results can differ slightly. Also switching in-between quality modes and restarting the game often results in the game forcing old image quality settings again. We'll see how this benchmark is going to develop in the future though.
So, in the chart above the results you should focus on is 2560x1440 as hey, it is a good reproducible benchmark for you guys as well. When we move up-to Ultra HD (3840x2160) we see we can still play the game at 53 FPS. That is pretty amazing. For comparisons sake I injected a GTX 960 in there to show the difference in between mid-range and enthusiast class graphics.
Once I fire off an even higher resolution of 5K Ultra HD at 5210x2880 then that is where we start to see the new limitation, but even then the game is very playable at just over 30 FPS at Very High image quality settings. At that point we use close to 4.5 GB of VRAM.
And back to 2560x1440 - More comparative results to other cards will be added in the future, I wanted to simply give an impression of what you may expect performance wise. Small tip, we find the Ultra quality settings to be heavy on VRAM with the internal benchmark, as such we recommend Very High quality settings to use and compare to. From GeForce GTX 980 (reference) to GeForce GTX 980 Ti (reference) you are looking at roughly a 25% performance increase. But let's move onward to the next page.
