The board's overall power consumption from idle to load is slightly higher than reference. Expect an idle wattage of roughly 10 Watts and, when the monitor goes into power save mode, the card throttles down even lower to 3 Watts. We measured the TDP for the 7870 at roughly 150~160 Watts for the card tested today.
The 7870 utilizes two 6-pin power connectors, a 550W PSU would be sufficient. The cooler used on the 7870 HAWK works fantastically, remains silent and properly cools the GPU down. We'll show you that on the next few pages though.
I took the liberty of also taking some photos with the card resting in the test system. The card has a battery of dim blue LED lights.
Honestly, that is a pretty sight alright. But let's move onwards into the technology empowering the graphics card. And for those that wonder, yeah that's the Corsair Obsidian 800D chassis.
