HIS R5870 V iCooler Turbo
HIS R5870 V iCooler Turbo
Okay, we just talked about the standard reference architecture. HIS is doing it slightly different with this model though.
First off, there are two models. The standard HIS Radeon HD 5870 iCooler V has the graphics core clocked at 850MHz and the memory clocked at 4,800 MHz. The HIS Radeon HD 5870 iCooler V Turbo as we test today, has a little more stamina with GPU and memory clocks of 875MHz and 4,900MHz respectively. The faster clocks remain on the shy side though as ATI really doesn't like to see OC models out in the open until they release their refresh products.
Anyway, the HIS R5870 V iCooler Turbo is all about the cooler though, as it shaves of quite a few degrees C more than the reference cooler. iCooler is based on a heat sink design that has been designed to keep the card significantly cooler than the reference. The cooling system provides presence of the big fan allocated on the centre, and an array of aluminum edges of the heat sink.
To juice it all up both the HD 5870 iCooler V and the iCooler V Turbo will require a power supply of at least 500W. You will spot two 75W 6-pin PEG PCI express power connectors.
What's good to know is that HIS is offering the cards either as stand-alone products or accompanied by a game voucher for downloading the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PC game.
But let's place the primary clock specs into a little chart so you can compare.
Radeon HD 4870 | Radeon HD 5850 | Radeon HD 5870 | HIS R5870 V iCooler Turbo | |

Idle Board Power | 90W | 27W | 27W | 27W |
As you can see the HIS R5870 V iCooler Turbo comes overclocked a little at the core with a 25 MHz increase and an effective 100 MHz extra on the 256-bit gDDR5 memory. Now of course you'll be able to tweak out a significant extra amount of speed as the card is designed for overclocking.
