9. What's the best part of your rig?
Everything! Just the whole desk part, it’s something different. Down to all the little details like staining the Oak to match the other furniture in the room. Custom mobo trays with each PC name etched in, and all the little bits. The watercooling loop looking pretty clean, and performs really well!
10. Any dislikes, things you should not have bought?
None, but I did have to try some other hardware bits and pieces now and then only to find it didn’t work or didn’t work the way I wanted… One of them being the fan controller that has died on me, to be replaced and now it won’t control the fans properly… So need to get that fixed soon.
11. Did you modify anything ? cases/video cards/other? Did you do it yourself? Walk us through it.
Phew where to start…
So ye my mate is a carpenter (Chris Bond). He helped with the design and obviously crafting a beautiful piece of furniture. We worked together on it, getting the design right or at least so we thought.
Built it at first and had to chop about 100mm off the top, take the top draw out, and drop the desk into that draw space. This was because at first I could not sit comfortably at it, this caused some design changes and hardware changes… But I think the final layout is much nicer and cleaner looking.
Other than the physical desk creation itself, I got the mobo trays custom made to fit what I wanted. Then customised a few things like the CPU is running delidded, with the EK block sitting on top of the die itself. Obviously changed the card to have a water block on it, and the motherboard Formula block replaced with an EK one. I sanded down and sprayed the XSPC rads to be white (as at the time there was no white version, sigh). The server board Sabertooth armor was sprayed white to match the theme. All PSU cables were custom made to deal with the increased length they needed to be to fit around the desk. I ended up with around 350m worth of PSU cables in this desk, with bleeding fingers, and a lot of sweat!
It’s been a mammoth project taking around 18months in my spare time. Often it would sit there for a few months with nothing done to it. Carbon wrap for the base makes a nice contrast to the white fittings and armour.

13. Do you have any Future updates planned ?
Yup, I would love a 4k monitor with G-Sync! Other than the monitor I’m happy… for now.
14. Does your rig or mod have a name ?
It has been affectionately named The Baby Grand, as just about everyone that saw it for the first time commented that it looked like a Grand Piano… So the name has now stuck.
