9. What's the best part of your rig?
The 5 inch LCD for temperature and usage monitoring! I originally had a Logitech G15 which I always used for this purpose, but it was starting to show it’s age both in use and technologically, I had my eye on an RGB board but needed to find a way of retaining the temp and usage monitoring which I had become so accustomed to. I initially toyed with the idea of using an OLED display but thought it may be a little too basic. I then stumbled on the sensor panel within AIDA 64 which gave me the idea of the 5 inch LCD. I also quite fan of the blue on white color scheme!
10. Any dislikes, things you should not have bought?
The UT60 radiator was carried over from the X9 case as I mentioned earlier. If I had planned this build out a little better, I should have added a 360mm thin radiator which would keep the option of 1080 SLI open. I also wish I had opted for the more expensive Samsung B die based ram – but these are minor things.
11. Did you modify anything? cases/video cards/other? Did you do it yourself? Walk us through it.
There isn’t much in this case that hasn’t been modded to some degree by myself, so:
1) The case – The case originally came with black internals. That was sprayed white and I had to remove quite a lot of the back plate for the fitment of the acrylic wall and the LCD display. I also added the front intake fan and made a hole beside the rear I/O for the cables for the monitor.
2) All the radiators were sprayed white.
3) All the fittings were sprayed white (originally chrome).
4) The Pump/res base was sprayed white.
5) GPU backplate was sprayed white and logo added.
6) The ram was stripped down, painted white and logos added.
7) The 3x Thermaltake Riing 12 fans were stripped, painted white and the old red LED’s were replaced with blue LED’s.
8) The EK CPU Monoblock was stripped down and a vinyl outline was added.
9) Sleeved cables were added (these were made by Shakmods)
10) All the PCI brackets were painted white including the rear i/o for the 1080 GTX
11) Acrylic wall fitted with cable management holes and an acrylic base added to the front to give a cleaner look.
12) The EK terminal for the GPU block was painted white
12. Your 3DMark scores
17961 – This was run in April when the ram was stuck down at 2400 MHz.
13. Do you have any future updates planned?
I have seriously considered adding an MSI Titanium board to really finish off the build, but I can’t justify the cost of the gaming 5 for purely cosmetic reasons. I have also thought about another 1080 for SLI, but at the moment the need isn’t there as the only game I own that drops below 60FPS at 1440P is Watch Dogs 2, and that isn’t due to hardware!
14. Does your rig or mod have a name?
Temporal Snow – I chose it based on the white theme and tempered glass, simple!
