Well, let's strip the GeForce 6800 Ultra 'nekked. This part of the review is a small update that I added June 4th 2004. Basically I had to check what it under the hood as I would like to try a out small water-cooling project on this graphics card. The bad news, the watercooling project with the gear that I have is not compatible.
The good news .. I took pictures of the process of removing the cooling unit of the GeForce 6800 Ultra. It might come in handy if you want to replace the cooling unit or simply are curious what you'll find underneith.
Once we remove the front cover with 6 tiny screws we already get a pretty good impression on how the airflow runs.
Here's a little inside look. Let's take ait a step further.
By removing an additional four screws the entire unit will be loose.
Tattaaah ... and let's zoom in a tad further
There you have it. The NV40 core ...now if those drill holes only where a bit closer to each other. Ah well, no watercooling for now. Next page ;)
