A few weeks ago NVIDIA unveiled its new mid-range GeForce 6600 line-up of graphics cards, cards that are going to deliver a kick in the affordable segment, cards with a lot of performance versus excellent 3D gaming quality. In the new GeForce 6600 range the consumer will see two products initially, namely a GeForce 6600 and a GeForce 6600 GT.
Last week we received the new GeForce 6600 GT reference sample from NVIDIA themselves. Today we will be testing the PCI-Express model, mind you that despite some rumors there will be an AGP version available, I've confirmed this with NVIDIA. Well then, I have to admit people, for the money this is going to be a really kick'ass performer, as it is has all 6800 features just less performance. The 6600GT card will completely crush ATI's X600 in terms of performance for sure, so we'll just have to wait until until ATI provides the successor to their X600/9600 model on the market, the X700. Speaking of which; I was able to confirm with a manufacturer that the X700 is closer then we think. It is scheduled for late September already. Exciting time for sure! The close competition is just great as in the end you, the consumer, will benefit the most from that wicked race between ATI and NVIDIA.
Let's have a look at what we can expect. In the new GeForce 6600 range we will see two products initially, namely the GeForce 6600 and the GeForce 6600 GT, followed by a 6610 XL model, which is likely an OEM card. Both cards will have 8 pixel pipelines and will be equipped with 128-bit memory. The GT version is of course slightly faster but here's an interesting fact, it will also be SLI compatible. Well, you might as well buy a high-end 6800 then but still...

The two most important mid-range models will be:
GeForce 6600 GT
The GeForce 6600 GT delivers enthusiast-class features and performance to the midrange $199 price point with fast GDDR3 memory clocked at 500 MHz (1 GHz effective), and a fast 500 MHz core clock. GeForce 6600 GT is currently the only SLI-ready GPU in the mainstream segment, with full hardware support for NVIDIAs new multi-GPU technology.GeForce 6600
Based on the same great GeForce 6600 GT architecture, the GeForce 6600 GPU also has an eight pixel pipe design and supports 128 MB of DDR graphics memory.
As you can see from the table above, NVIDIA is rather happy with the Series 6 graphics processor, they announced Series 6 in April and look what is saturating the retail and OEM market already.
