Introduction

FSP Hydro G Pro 1000W (ATX 3.0) power supply

We have recently acquired the FSP Hydro G Pro 1000W (ATX 3.0) power supply and are excited to put it to the test on our benchmarking platform. Fortron Source Power (FSP) is primarily known for its line of power supply units (PSUs), but the company also produces chassis and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices. This is not our first review of an FSP product; we previously tested the FSP HYDRO PTM PRO 1200 (which received an "Approved" award) and the FSP DAGGER PRO 850 (which did not receive an award). The Hydro G Pro and PTM Pro series, which are compatible with ATX 3.0/PCIe 5.0, were announced in March 2022, and their official release occurred in October 2022. We are eager to test the Hydro G Pro 1000W power supply and see how it stacks up against other products in its class. What’s the difference vs. the products from the older batch? Mainly it’s the implementation of the PCI-Express 5.0 generation’s power connector. These new power supplies carry the latest 12VHPWR power connector designed to deliver up to 600W of raw, unhindered power to the graphics card. With completely isolated terminals for added protection, they come fully remastered to handle the dramatic power spikes many of the newer high-end graphic cards draw on max load.

Under the hood, we have an FSP platform with the highest quality and reliability that distinguishes this brand. FSP Hydro G Pro 1000W (ATX 3.0) is an ATX power supply with a semi-passive mode. This time, it’s an 1000 Watt model (in black) with an 80 PLUS® Gold certificate, which means that it’s 90% efficient at 50% load @ 115 V, and 92% efficient @ 230 V. It is crucial because less consumed energy goes to waste (at least not in a significant amount), and that should affect your energy bill. It is essential in these wicked times, where energy prices skyrocketed recently. Speaking of the fan – it’s 120 mm with PWM control that allows lower noise and keeps thermals in check. It’s possible to disable the fanless mode.

FSP HYDRO G PRO 1000W (ATX 3.0) is a fully modular PSU; even though the motherboard connectors are not permanently attached to the housing, you still have to use most of them. Nearly all cases have a power supply shroud now (at least ATX-sized ones do), so the unit and the cables (with ribbon design for enthusiasts) will be hidden in most scenarios. There are no color variants, the only one available is black, but that’s typical for this kind of product. There’s also an 850 Watt version to choose from. The 1000 Watts available in the reviewed unit should be more than enough for most users; even an i9 13900K combined with the Geforce RTX 4090 shouldn’t be a problem. The FSP HYDRO G PRO 1000W (ATX 3.0) is built with 100% Japanese capacitors and other premium components to achieve 80 Plus Gold Certification; thus, that provides enhanced reliability and durability. Ok, let’s check out this PSU from FSP, shall we? The unit is compact, measuring 150 mm x 150 mm x 85 mm. The retail price is about 190 USD. A 10-year warranty backs FSP HYDRO G PRO 1000W (ATX 3.0).
