The Verdict.
So, can F.E.A.R.challenge Half Life 2 for the FPS crown? Well, while F.E.A.R. makes an excellent attempt, I would have to say that HL2 offers a broader more varied and well rounded experience as a game. Dont get me wrong, the game is fantastic; it just needed that extra edge when it comes to variety, both in terms of environment, and all round action it does tend to get a little samey after a while, and this could affect replay value. However, after finally recovering from my ordeal, and numerous heart attacks I can conclude that being scared out of your wits has never been so good looking or so much fun before. I have to say that this game certainly takes the mantel of scariest game ever. F.E.A.R. is a work of art. The slow motion, physics engine and enemy AI combine to devastating affect. You really do have to see this game in motion with your own eyes. The game engine is fantastic, and it really is one of the best graphical experiences you can find right now. However, to experience it at its best you are going to need to invest in some fairly decent hardware.

It is certainly a challenging game, especially if you are someone who likes to go in at a harder level, and the AI really does give you something to think about. Its quite possibly the best AI we have seen to date. The story line is good enough to keep you interested, and is certainly twisted enough to put that chill up your spine. It drips with atmosphere from beginning to end, thanks to the perfect pacing, placement and level design, and some of you might be pleased to know that the ending leaves plenty of open questions to be answered in a sequel.

F.E.A.R. goes right to the top of my game pile, and I have a feeling its going to stay there for a very long time!
