Enermax Infiniti EIN650AWT 650W Power Supply

I have a confession to make. I have never owned an Enermax PSU to date that I didn't like or one that has failed on me. Enermax have actually been around since 1990 and made quite a reputable name for themselves with the production of power supplies, computer components and accessories. Enermax's current lines of power supplies take in a wide choice of products aimed at various consumer segments. Current products include: Liberty, Noisetaker, Infiniti, FMA II DXX, Galaxy, and the recently tested Galaxy DXX series.

So perhaps today's review can disappoint for a change ? Aah, not a chance man. Yes true, at this very moment in the land of PSU's there are a handful of players that constantly deliver the quality good that you and I are looking for. 

Hello everyone and welcome to a new Power Supply unit review. Hey you can expect a lot of PSU reviews in the upcoming weeks. We here at Guru3D.com we believe these little masters of distribution are a key element in your PC. Ask yourself, what do you need if you build a high-end PC with for example demanding graphics cards? What do you do when a system is getting unstable? What is very important if you overclock a PC? I could go on for a while easily, but the generic answer always is the PSU. One of the most underestimated peripherals in the PC.

Today we'll gawp (for a change) not at a KiloWatt PSU, yet we can lower the price a little. Granted, it's still a high-end PSU that will still cost a good amount of money. It's the all new Enermax Infinity 650 Watt. And Kilowatt or not, we'll still throw everything at the PC that we can humanly, possibly do to get it unstable with a high wattage load to see if we can break it. I hope one day we'll succeed. :)

The new Infinity 650 watts PSU is interesting for a lot of reasons. First off, you won't drop 300 bucks on a PSU. No Sir, you can pick it up for roughly $159.99 (at the time of writing this article) which considering what it is is not a bad price at all. We immediately notice that the PSU is DXX ready for PCI Express 2.0 / DXX next generation graphic cards with 6+2P (8P) PCI Express connector over it's three separated 12volts distribution lines. Lovely.

This modular PSU is not just a high-end PSU, no it has a couple of safety features harboured in it as well. The Enermax PowerGuard function for example warns you of potential failure with a series of audible beeps and shuts down your system before any damage can occur. Hey, no damage = good, right? :)

Then a feature I find pretty sexy. The CoolGuard function allows your system fans, including the CPU cooler, to run after the system is shut down to protect your whole system against heat. So you turn off the PC, yet the fans will remain spinning for a while until the temperature has dropped enough. After this the PSU will indefinitely shut down the rest of the circuitry. Pretty cool.
