What about ping times?
If you are not crazy far away from the powerline network among the adapters, your ping times will be very good. In fact awesomeness for gaming, check it out. This is based on setup 1 and 2:
As you can see we send 50 data-packets to the 2nd PC and get a 4ms ping on average with no packet-loss.
Now we take the other extreme... setup 3... far away in the kitchen with all kinds of devices:
As you can see the data packets move around much more unstably and for gaming this would be a complete disaster. But, this is the worst case scenario really, and though ping times were horrible... we didn't lose any data-packets.
Power Consumption
We also tested how much power the dLAN adapter uses, and that's not bad at all. Roughly 3.5 Watts per adapter. So let's say you use you use six powerline adapters -- that's 21 Watts. That's probably still lower then a wireless router. Also, when the Powerline adapters are not use, they jump into a power conservation mode, lowering wattage even more.
