SSD Performance Atto Disk Benchmark

Atto Disk Benchmark

ATTO Disk Benchmark is a widely used software tool designed to measure the performance of storage devices, particularly hard drives and solid-state drives (SSDs). It's commonly employed to evaluate the read and write speeds of various storage solutions and provides insights into their overall performance capabilities. ATTO Disk Benchmark is often utilized by hardware enthusiasts, IT professionals, and manufacturers to assess the efficiency of storage devices for different workloads and applications.

Key features and aspects of ATTO Disk Benchmark include:

  1. Sequential and Random Testing: ATTO Disk Benchmark conducts both sequential and random read/write tests. Sequential tests measure the performance when data is transferred in a continuous stream, similar to tasks like video editing. Random tests simulate scenarios where data is accessed randomly, as is common in multitasking environments or database operations.
  2. Customizable Test Parameters: Users can configure various test parameters such as transfer size, queue depth, and data pattern. This allows for tailored testing that matches specific usage patterns or workload scenarios.
  3. Variety of Transfer Sizes: The benchmark supports a wide range of transfer sizes, from small to large, enabling users to assess how different file sizes impact the performance of the storage device.

So we can test with a 32 MB sequence of 4 KB files, yet also 32 MB in 1 MB files. This gives us an excellent scope of overall performance with small and large files. The most important and challenging task for any storage unit is writing really small files fast, so have a look at that with this WRITE test. We scale 4 KB block sizes to 1,024 KB block sizes in bursts of 256 MB with a queue depth of 10 and then measure how fast the storage device is dealing with them.
