The SSD can be opened up and shows an almost full-size PCB. This 6 Gbps (SATA3) storage unit makes use of Micron TLC 3D NAND. A total of eight NAND flash memory ICs can be spotted on each side (thus sixteen in total) of the PCB for the entire 1TB (physically 1024GB). The NAND FLASH partitions are assigned directly to the controller.

Here we can see the Silicon Motion SM2258 XT controller, the SM2258 series features advanced SLC Caching algorithms for optimal sustained performance with that NAND.

Sitting at its right side is a Micron DRAM D9SHD chip, one for this SSD. That would be a 512MB DRAM cache buffer, however, at the backside, there's another one. I assume the 1 and 2 TB models get 1024 MB cache, the 250 and 500 GB models a 2x256MB DRAM cache. The performance rating for all volume sizes remains the same though.

As stated, the NAND are sixteen packages Micron 7TA22 NW925, TLC written. The ICs are not recognized in any database just yet, so it's the new stuff alright, 64-layer V-NAND.

Here we see the backside of the PCB, again we see four NAND ICs. Small PCB eh? Missing compared to the MX300 and MX200 are all eh ceramic capacitors preventing data-corruption at power loss. However, Crucial's modified its flash program sequencing for its NAND flash, this results (they claim) into the same function. So they should be able to survive a power loss.
