I already told you that if a package is heavy it's likely good right? Well, after opening the box you know it's good alright. A very well packaged kit. You'll find no less than 7 satellite speakers that can manage 70 Watts RMS each.
The subwoofer is something else, that's the heavy weight product right there, a massive and sturdy constructed box (reminds me of the Star Trek Borg Cube actually) with 210 Watts RMS juice in there. That sums up to 700 Watts.
The speakers are controlled by an Audio Control pod, really nothing much to look at. I wish that the set was bundled standard with their external DDTS-100 decoder. Granted with the Audigy 4 Pro in the PC that's a little overkill, but the little control pod is, well not exactly good-looking. The Pod allows you to tweak individual channel levels, as well as an overall treble level for the satellites. Next to this you can set your 'up-mix' preference, so that when 5.1 (Dolby Digital, DTS) or 6.1 (Dolby Digital EX or DTS-ES) material comes into the speakers, the system will pan the surround channel information into all four surround channels. You can either play 5.1 or 6.1 source material through their normal channel format or up-mix to use the additional speaker(s). Furthermore the control pod can be used for headphones, line-in (external MP3 player) and it can of course be controlled with the included remote control.
This is also a good time to talk about power consumption. The speakers when active at all time will use 50-60 watts of power. By itself not that terrible, but even if you are not using or listening to anything our wattage meter still displayed 50 Watts. SO remember if you are not listening to music or do anything sound wise, disable the kit by selecting power off at the control pod.
You don't want leave your 60 Watts light-bulb on 24 hours a day also do you ?
