Final Words
Cougar’s Immersa Pro is a great headset, one of the best you can get for the money. Cougar is passionate about gaming and creating good products for that money, and it shows. They managed to pack in all the features you’d need, including the RGB all the things.
Cup size matters
At first, I wasn’t really sold on the knobs on the earcups, but then they grew on me. The left side mute for the mic is really pretty good. If you’re not a push to talk kind of gamer, having the mute in a location where you always know where it is, is a great feature. The volume knob I’m ambivalent about, I keep it all the way up and prefer to set the volume in Windows and Alt-Tab when I need to adjust. You can also just plug it into your external DAC using the included analog adapter.
Wearing comfort
The Immersa Pro is very comfortable. Clamping force is higher than the AKG K7XX I normally use, but not nearly Sennheiser HD650 levels. There’s also the slightly distracting cable rustle, which you get used to, but really shouldn’t be there. The soft padding keeps it comfortable, though I did notice a little ear sweat after a long listening or gaming session.
Audio quality
Speaking of listening, the Immersa Pro have very good sound. While not as detailed as the reference headphones, they do a very good job. What the Immera Pro does very well is a strong bass, with lots of punch and impact. The midrange is very good, with treble a little light on clarity, but gets the job done. The Immersa Pro, living up to its name, also block out a bit of ambient noise, making it a little harder to hear the DoorDash when they bring your food. For gaming, the Immersa Pro did a good job in all the games I threw at it. For PUBG, the footsteps were easy to pick out making it a little easier to anticipate encounters. For racing games, like Project Cars 2, where the mechanical souls of the cars are lovingly recorded, the Immersa Pro did great. For an open world game, Witcher 3, also very good, though some dialog and story components were a little dark sounding.
Concluding
I would have liked a better microphone, however. The mic sounded a bit muffled, though levels were good, using the Immersa Pro’s microphone is like talking through a pair of socks. People can understand you fine, just not particularly clear. Not as clear as the Asus Orion Pro headset I usually use. The UIX software was good, though many of the Xear features were left in the Windows Sound control panel. It does allow you to change the RGB lighting, and it does that very well. The UIX also doesn’t allow you to control some other Cougar products, like their excellent mice. Without a doubt, the Immersa Pro are a good value. They offer good performance in audio, acceptable microphone, RGB LEDs, and knobs. It’s also very orange. At the price of $90USD, I don’t think you’ll find a headset that has the features and most importantly, sound quality. Definitely recommended.
