Introduction

Corsair Katar Pro Wireless mouse

In this article, we review the Corsair Katar Pro Wireless mouse. It’s an optical gaming mouse that was launched on 6.10.2020. It’s a new version of the Katar model, which was introduced 5 years ago. The Katar Pro Wireless is targeted at gamers, but it should also work more than fine as a regular mouse.

This time, the optical sensor is the 10K DPI PMW3325 (it’s 12.4K in the wired version of the Katar). You should achieve up to 135 hours of battery life on a single AAA battery, which sounds phenomenal. Especially that you can, and should, use rechargeable batteries. With two AAAs, you’re practically good to go all the time. You can choose one of two power management modes. The factory-default Performance mode (recommended for gaming) offers a full-speed report rate, and the mouse goes to sleep after two minutes in idle. In Power Saving mode (used for non-gaming activities or when the battery level is low,) the USB report rate is decreased to 125 Hz, and the mouse goes to sleep after just ten seconds in idle.
As for the connectivity, you can choose between:

  • Sub-1ms SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS technology,
  • low-latency Bluetooth wireless technology (7.5 ms using the BT LE 4.2 specification),

There’s a slider underneath the mouse that lets you switch between these modes. It also makes it easier to move the mouse between your gaming rig and a secondary PC.

Regarding the RGB, there is, in fact, no dedicated lighting zone on the mouse. Only the DPI button (for cycling between the 3 DPI profiles) has a backlight, adjusted with Corsair’s iCUE software. The KATAR PRO WIRELESS has six buttons that can be remapped or set to custom macros. You can also adjust sensitivity, customize three DPI presets, and more.
The symmetrical shape is optimal for both the claw and fingertip grip styles. The weight is low for a wireless device, as it is 96 g.
The Corsair KATAR PRO WIRELESS is available at $39.99/€49.99. The warranty is 2 years, so that’s pretty standard. Is this product worth its price, given the provided features and functionality? Let’s find out.
