The iCue Link system is a bidirectional, single-cable approach to reduce cable clutter typically associated with gaming PCs and reator. Each device incorporating the iCue Link possesses an integrated microcontroller that enables two-way communication with the System Hub while simultaneously providing power. The fans also have a temperature sensor for data logging, and finetuning the RPM. Of course, you can synchronize RGB lighting to generate visual effects such as slow or reverse fan rotation and a gazillion of other animations. Furthermore, this system facilitates the customization of individual fan response curves to establish an ideal equilibrium between operational performance and permissible noise levels.
Expansion of iCUE Link-compatible products is expected from Corsair in the future. In terms of fans, Corsair will be introducing two sizes: 140mm and 120mm, known as QX 140 and QX120, respectively. These fans will be available in black and white variants and will utilize magnetic levitation for the fan bearing.
The AIO (All-in-One) liquid coolers have also received an upgrade. Similar to the fans, there will be two types of new liquid coolers: the RGB AIO and the LCD AIO. The LCD AIO will feature a customizable screen. While Corsair has not yet announced the specific sizes, it is likely that options similar to their H100 ranges will be available, such as 240mm, 360mm, and 420mm. These new liquid coolers are scheduled for release in Q3 of 2023.
A key functionality of the iCue Link system is the option to connect devices in a series instead of individually to the System Hub. This can be exemplified by attaching a case fan to an All-In-One (AIO) cooler, with only the AIO cooler necessitating a direct connection to the System Hub.
As mentioned, the preliminary iCue Link product range comprises the QX120 and QX140 RGB fans, which are equipped with Magnetic Dome bearings, quad RGB light loops, and a digital temperature sensor. Corsair intends to broaden its product range within the iCue Link line throughout the third quarter of 2023, with planned introductions of an AIO cooler, fans, CPU blocks, GPU blocks, and pump/reservoir combinations. The expansion of the iCue Link range is expected to progress into 2024 and subsequent years.
It should be noted that while the iCue Link system simplifies the assembly of fan and RGB-heavy PCs, it comes with an increased cost implication. Additionally, employing the iCue Link system implicates an engagement with the Corsair ecosystem, a factor Corsair is cognizant of. To offer alternatives, Corsair has also released fans not integrated with the iCue Link system, indicating that enthusiasts have other options and are not required to exclusively adopt this particular solution.
