The headset comes with two big 50mm neodymium drivers which deliver a of volume with limited distortion in bass. In comparison, the Sennheiser HD800 has 56mm drivers and a 40mm voice coil (because the technology is rather different, it's hard to call Sennheiser drivers, 'drivers'), so the H1500 is getting up there.
The earcups on the headset are big and padded similar to the Vengeance 1500 and 2000 with quite a bit of adjustment for comfort. Overall very comfortable thanks to the microfiber-wrapped memory foam we discussed earlier.
Despite being sealed-back headphones, it doesnt offer very much attenuation of external noise like the ASUS Vulcan ANC does, but it does offer more than open-back headphones like the AKG K701 or Grado. Oh and they'll keep your ears nice and warm during those cold winters.
The headband on the H1500 is fairly similar to the Vengeance 1500. So that would be big and padded, but with little extra touches like the yellow banding. Differences can be found in the design of the headband, whose hinges/swivel points have been redesigned to be much more hard-wearing. The ear cups can be rotated completely so they'll adjust themselves perfectly to the shape of your head.
The boom microphone rotates away up and down, but isn't adjustable other than that. It is noise-cancelling, and well talk to it and about that as well later on. Now normally I do have a slight aversion to the USB chips in headsets, but over the years a lot has improved now driving the good kits towards near audiophile levels. Corsair is using higher quality USB chips in their headsets. The Corsair gaming headset uses (we assume) the C-Media CM6302. If it is the IC used then that is a great audio chip that offers 16-bit, in 44.1 KHz or 48 KHz sample rates, DAC for output, and 16-bit, 44.1 KHz and 48 KHz ADC (analog-to-digital conversion) for the microphone. This chip also integrates a DSP that enables Dolby Digital technologies.
Overall the Corsair Gaming H1500 we feel is stylish and even elegant in a minimalist sort of way.
