The heatspreader is designed to enhance heat dissipation allowing better tweaks and overclocks. As a result this is not 100% low profile memory though. The idea is that heat is moved away from the actual memory chips and this increases potential overclocking and stability. Still with this design any cooler in close vicinity of the memory should install just fine. Thanks to that metal bar the memory is very sturdy and can be inserted into the DIMM slots with ease.
This memory is ALL about good looks so I decided to throw in an extra page with just photo's of the memory. The photo above says it all really.
Once we power up the system you can see a diffuse white light emitting from the downside of the metal bar, these are LEDs. Nothing the flashy or extreme, done very subtle. Me likey...
In fact here you can see that a little better, this is roughly what you'll see in twilight conditions. Photography wise it would have helped if the motherboard and VGA card wouldn't have these intensely bright LEDs as well :)
As stated the memory used is PC3-17066 (2133MHz) which you can use on Intel based systems. In the BIOS just flick the XMP 1.3 compatible profile, and you'll be up and running at advertised speeds. The memory itself is compatible with Intel Z77, X79, Z68 and P67 platforms. Mind you that 1600 MHz kits are available as well, shaving off a lot of the pricing.
