The build quality is lovely, the bezel has a nice sturdy feel to it being all metal and then the design is elaborate with the nice tempered glass panel. Now, you have seen that in our acoustic test the fans are quiet but at higher RPM not silent. Hey, with the airflow gaps, simply lower fan RPM a notch, and you'll never hear anything from this chassis fan wise. The dark interior and cable management will complement your components. Optional is an LED RGB lit version. And you know what? I like that as an option, as not everybody likes to pay the mandatory additional modern for RGB fans and controllers.  Despite its squarish shape, the 4000D remains a reasonably compact chassis due to its height, you can house anything starting at E-ATX motherboard wise, anything smaller will fit in there but anything of a larger form factor would be an issue (XL-ATX, which is rare these days). Corsair does not specify that when you mount an LCS at the roof side, it needs to be a somewhat thin version as it could bump into DRAm. of course, low profile DRAM solves that s an issue as well. Also, no worries as you could mount even a 360mm LCS at the front.  The airflow is done right and if you need even better, go with the AIRFLOW edition, space (up-to E-ATX form factor) offers plenty of options and choice in motherboards, features like the SSD/HDD space, ease of use and USB 3.x ports are all available as well. Though I would have liked to see a few more standard USB ports.  Lacking, is an integrated fan controller, but with a good motherboard that's no biggy either.

Aesthetics

The looks then; we feel the 4000D is a very nice looking product. Nothing is shouty or extreme. And I do like that personally. Also of you want a scream RGB Christmas three next to your gaming chair, there is the option for that RGB version. The dark tint tempered glass will make you look inside the PC and its components. Nice to see is that everything is black from the dust filters to USB 3.0 integration and rubberized grommet holes.  the new yellow signature accents that Corsair is placing gradually into their product could be irksome for some.  

Features

The internals are pretty decent as well, good sized E-ATX form factor motherboards will fit, the more lengthy graphics card will fit as well (up to 36cm). There's also good space for liquid cooling on the front side and top side (with the RAm high profile limitation as remark), the drive bay has sufficient space for two HDDs and in total you could mount four SSDs. The chassis has nice motherboard cut-outs with that gutter and there's mucho enough space left for cable routing, all in that all-black interior. 

The Verdict

Aside from a bit too much marketing chatter like AirGuide technology, anti-vortex vanes, and words like RapidRoute we feel the new 4000D series is simply put a well-executed product series. Good looks, good performance, and a decent feature set. Not just that, the base model as tested costs 80 USD, which we feel is spot on. The overall looks are in line with many other chassis of course, but yeah how many times can you re-invent the wheel anyway? I can nag about the wish for two more USB connectors and perhaps a separated MIC/LINE out connector, but my nagging would stop there. The concept is thought through properly, and for any modern PC DIY build, the 4000D is a nice match. Props to Corsair for simplifying the naming of the new and future series as well, this is easy to remember, and chassis like 4000D and 5000D simply put is easier to grasp. The cooling performance is adequate for the base model, need more? opt the AIRFLOW mode, but at the cost of a meshed front size bezel, and thus looks.   The two new fans are fairly silent but perform a mid 'mid-range'. There's plenty of room in the front for a nice LCS, and you get easy access there as well.  Overall the chassis is easy to use and fairly maintenance free, with the easy to clean magnet based dust-filters. You'll have enough storage options alongside proper cable routing and management options. At a price of 80 USD for the base model as tested today we thing Corsair offers a very complete and good-looking and solid all-around product. Highly recommended. And remember, you get the three versions, but there's also an option available in a white designed 4000D.
