So for today's review we have an engineering sample Core i7-5960X processor in our hands. As you can see, these are vanilla picked, non retail versions. Once you have one in your hand you realize these are a little heavy.
The Core i7-5960X clocks in at a base-clock of 3.0 GHz, yet can turbo towards 3.5 GHz depending on load levels versus active threads; this eight core processor can be hyper-threaded towards 16 threads. Given its 8 core architecture, Intel kept the clock frequency down a bit. This actually means that a Core i7-5930K that turbos to 3.7 GHz in many scenarios might be faster based on the default clock frequencies (if the application isn't heavily threaded).
It's quite a powerful puppy I'll give you that. Expect the final sales price to be just as powerful at roughly 1000 USD per processor. But let's have a look at an X99 motherboard.
