Final Words and conclusion
Final words and conclusion
The SK621 is a fairly unique keyboard for many reasons. First off, if you choose this model then you do so with reason, being on the road as it weighs just under 500 grams and was designed to be portable. For a portable keyboard, it ticks a lot of the right boxes if you want premium though. Now I do not like the 'onboard' configuration through the keys when it comes to macro's, but Cooler Master offers a software suite as well, and that is pretty golden.
Any good?
The keyboard is very sturdy and strong thanks to its aluminum housing, the combination of Cherry MX red and low profile keys make it an excellent keyboard to game with. I was afraid that the keycaps would be too thin initially, but from what I can tell CM made them a notch thicker bringing a very short keypress that still feels strong towards this keyboard.
I would have liked some standoff feet to raise the back a bit more, it's not bad at all, but I need a little more angle to be totally honest. And while I do miss my top function and numeric keys, surely that's a choice you make when you purchase this keyboard. The trick with the keyboard is that it remains a simple enough keyboard for both usage and design, the software suite is not complicated. The macro programming and LED lighting can be a little difficult to use at first due to all the function combos you need to remember, but after 15 minutes of goofing around you'll get the hang of it. Here again, you will probably end up using the Portal software suite.
Concluding
I am quite honestly pleasantly surprised with the S621. You take a properly built good keyboard and slice away the function, media, and numeric keys. That, in essence, is the SK621. Add to that full RGB, Macro, profile programming though the keys functions or software as well as bringing low profile Cherry MX Red switched to the table, yeah it's all good. The keyboard is designed to be used on the when you are on road and want to game properly but easily can type a letter as well. Clever is the Bluetooth mode, you can pair three devices quite easily. The downside here is, however, battery life, especially with RGB mode on you get maybe 5 hours out of it. Disable the LEDs and it'll last you a day actively gaming easily. I see that wireless feature as a bit of an added extra. And that's also where this conclusion is headed at, the SK621 is the tiniest and compact keyboard you'll have ever worked with or gamed on, however, it has all the essentials you need from wireless to quality low profile Cherry MX switches and even than RGB setup that is bound to impress many. The software suite is properly functional but could be better though. But yeah, not bad, not bad at all. Cooler Master will give you a two-year warranty on the product at a starting price of $119. Definitely recommended, but very expensive.
