Cooler Master HAF-X review

Here we have the right side panel removed and look at the backside of the motherboard tray. There's plenty of space for wiring here and as well as in the right panel. Eye catching is the huge hole in the motherboard tray. Initially introduced by Cooler Master last year and now being picked up by a lot of companies. It allows you to access to the CPU cooler back plate and makes replacing a CPU cooler a lot easier without having to remove the motherboard. Admittedly, we do often stumble into the fact that these holes are too small.

Let's focus on the storage bays for a second. Check out that huge 200mm fan in front of the lower 3.5" drive bays, when activated (low RPM) the fan will emit a red light from the embedded LEDs. These LEDs can alternatively be shut down with the help of a small button at the front panel.

The top four bays feature screw less installation, slide in your optical drive and you can secure it with a push of a button.

Below the 5.25 bays are the internal 3.5 bays. You'll find five tool-less drive bays that will support 3.5 drives. Installation of the HDDs is realy easy.

So one bay comes with a 3.5 to 1.8/2.5 drive adaptor that will allow for two 1.8/2.5 drives to be mounted in the one 3.5 bay. You can place a 3.5" drive onto the tray by slightly bending on each side to create additional room for the drive to fit into. Once on the tray the hard drive is locked in place with four pins that fit into the screw holes on the sides.

Each pin that connects to the drive has a rubber pad on the end that will reduce vibration while the drive is active which will lower the noise level as a result.
