BFG Ageia PhysX accelerator card

The Ageia PhysX PPU in all its glory is manufactured on a 0.13u process at TSMC, the die is comprised of 125 million transistors. If you remove the heatsink like I did you'll notice that the size of the die is slightly larger than the gDDR3 memory modules which surround it.

When we focus on the card itself, we see a blue PCB with a standard aluminum active heatsink & also memory chips. The first thing you'll notice also is the need for an external power source as we find a 4-pin molex power connector to feed the card. The standard PCI slot does not provide enough power source for the physics processor. To be honest it's good that the card does not have a VGA/DVI connector otherwise you'd think it's a graphics card.

Once we fire up the system we'll notice that three LEDs lit up for a little "oooh" effect.

That 128MB of memory consists of Samsung K4J55323QF-GC20 GDDR3 SDRAM which are rated for a maximum frequency of 500MHz (x2). Guru3D has no clue what the clock speed of the PPU is, that information still is not disclosed but we think it's level to the memory at roughly 500 Mz.
